"Sacred Heart"

4 x 6 inches, watercolor and gouache, 2008.

A 4 x 6 inch painting of Jesus and His Sacred Heart. The image of the Sacred Heart represents Jesus' love for humanity - the thorns symbolise his death, the flames his love.
Painted for the Daily Watercolors Blog Wednesday Watercolor Challenge. This week the theme was "hearts".
"Saint Sebastian"

4 x 6 inches, watercolour, gouache and gold ink, 2008.

This was a commission piece. The client liked one of my other Sebastian paintings and wanted a similiar piece. The previous painting he liked was an ACEO so I kept the figure and the sky similar but opened up the painting and revealed more of his body and the landscape in the background. I heightened the emotion of the piece with a more intense expression of sorrow on his face. The client was very happy with the finished painting.
"Saint Therese of Lisieux"

ACEO, 2.5 x 3.5 inches, watercolor and gouache, November 2007

Therese was born in 1873 to religious parents, a watchmaker and lace maker. At the age of 15 she entered the Carmelite monastery at Lisieux and became a nun. She contracted tuberculosis and her health steadily declined until her death in 1897. She had written a spiritual memoir, "The Story of a Soul", in which she wrote of the "Little Way" - "The only way I can prove my love is by scattering flowers and these flowers are every little sacrifice, every glance and word, and the doing of the least actions for love." The book was published after her death and was a bestseller. She was canonised in 1925. She is the patron saint of AIDS sufferers, florists and missions.
"The Holy Child"

ACEO, 2.5 x 3.5 inches, watercolor and gouache, November 2007

An ACEO of a young Jesus based on an image from the film "Jesus of Nazareth".
